Modern History

The Second World War period witnessed an unprecedented exodus of farmers from Central Travancore to the remote hill areas of Malabar.

A section of them, mostly Christians from different parishes of Travancore, came to Manikkadavu in search of cultivable land.

The first team of settlers consisted of the Vengakkunnel, Vadakkedath, Kunnel, Kunnummel, Edayattupalliyil, Vettukallamkuzhi and Tekkumkattil families. They came from Ramapuram and settled at Vattiyamthode, a border river bank region of Manikkadavu.
